Barcelona is a paradise for shopping lovers, whether in modern shopping centers, or in emblematic streets and century-old shops, antiques, jewelry or luxury.

PLAÇA CATALUNYA AND PORTAL DE L’ÀNGEL

One of the historical commercial hubs of Barcelona, home to department stores such as El Corte Inglés and franchises of all kinds. The Portal de l’Àngel leaves Plaça Catalunya and ends at Portaferrissa, where we can jump from store to store to the Maldà galleries. Two steps away we will find La Rambla, where there is no shortage of souvenir shops, shoe stores, flower kiosks and some traditional shops, such as Corbeto’s Boots – which has been selling cowboy boots for more than 60m years. Going up the Rambla we will stop at Carrer Pelayo, where another stretch of clothing stores, shoe stores, jewelers and the El Triangle shopping center await us…

PASSEIG DE GRACIA

On the wide sidewalks of Passeig de Gràcia, the windows of the best brands are illuminated all night. On this emblematic avenue we will find firms such as Stella McCartney, Valentino, Prada, Vuitton, Cartier, Loewe… and a historic store, at number 93, Santa Eulalia, a benchmark after four generations dedicated to haute couture – since 1843.

Another landmark on this great boulevard is the Bagués Masriera jewelry store, located on the ground floor of Casa Amatller. Dedicated to jewelery since 1839, this internationally renowned firm is one of the few that continues to use fire enamel in an artisanal way.

DIAGONAL

In the upper part of Diagonal there are also international firms such as Calvin Klein, Armani, Versace and Gucci. The L’Illa shopping center was the first to open in the 1990s, with 100 establishments (Metro: Maria Cristina stop, L3. Tram: Illa stop, T1 T2 T3).

UNIQUE SHOPS

An amalgamation of small clothing boutiques turns an afternoon of shopping in the Raval into an experience, where you can buy that piece that no one else will have when we return home. This also happens in the Gràcia neighbourhood, full of unique shops of small local designers, clothing, shoes and jewelry.

ANTIQUES

Barcelona has a great supply of antiques if one knows where to look. In Carrer de la Palla, behind the Cathedral, for example, there are some specialized shops. On Saturday mornings there is a market in Port Vell. (Metro: Drassanes stop, L3), near the Columbus Monument. And on Thursday mornings in front of the Cathedral (Metro: Jaume I stop, L4).

ELS ENCANTS VELLS

This market, completely renovated a few years ago, is a must-see for Barcelonans looking to buy flea market pieces, fabrics, clothing, tools or zippers, to name just one example. There are stores for everything. (Metro: Glòries stop, L1).

MALLS

There are several shopping malls scattered around the city. Glòries, Diagonal Mar, La Maquinista, Gran Vía 2, Maremàgnum… Barcelonans tend to choose based on the location or the shops that interest them. Or the car park – at La Maquinista it is always free, whether you buy it or not.
