BARCELONA: Magic and Christmas

The cosmopolitan and modern city that it is, at this time competes in beauty and Christmas activities with any of the cities of Central Europe, of typical markets and charm of snow.

The lights in the streets

Although this year the City Council wanted to take energy savings into account more than ever, it considers lighting to be an essential tool for boosting the city’s potencial.

The cold is invisible when it comes to walking through the various Barcelona neighborhoods, admiring the Christmas decoration of lights, which transport us to the atmosphere of reunions, celebrations and wishes for the next 2023. It is also an excellent opportunity to taste the varied and excellent winter gastronomy that we offer in our terraces and restaurants.

Two towers of the Sagrada Familia lighted up for the first time on December 16

The towers of the Evangelists Lucas and Marcos were lit on the night of December 16 after the Christmas concert in Gaudí’s temple. The lights that indicate the final stretch of the Sagrada Familia. At the end of the Christmas Concert on December 16, the Sagrada Família illuminated the terminals of the Lucas and Marcos Evangelistas towers for the first time, thus commemorating the completion of their construction.

The towers are topped by the figure of the winged tetramorph with the Gospel book corresponding to Luke and Mark, which are represented by an ox and a lion, respectively, in accordance with Christian iconography. They will light up every evening from Saturday, December 17 until January 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

In December 2021, the tower of the Virgin Mary was inaugurated, illuminating the star for the first time. With the towers of the Evangelists Lucas and Marcos completed, three of the six central towers are finished.

Nadal al port’: the Christmas market by the sea

From December 5 to January 6, the Bosch i Alsina dock (Moll de la Fusta) will once again host the fourth edition of ‘Nadal al Port’. For yet another year, the Port of Barcelona joins the multiple Christmas offerings in Barcelona and offers the already mythical Christmas market on the seashore that tries to promote maritime heritage among citizens, consolidating the Moll de la Fusta as a space meeting point that favors the relationship between the port and the city thanks to the market, the attractions and the ice rink (one of the many in Barcelona)

Christmas Festival in the Plaza de Catalunya and the Plaza de la Universidad

For fourteen days, from December 17 to 30, Plaza de Catalunya and Plaza de la Universitat will be the settings for an attractive program for all kinds of audiences: children, Young Adults, local citizens and also visitors from all over the world.

The events are organized by the City Council and are free to access.
