Are you planning to come to Barcelona during the coldest months of the year? Visiting the city in winter allows you to discover and enjoy it in a different way. What’s more, at Premium Suite Hotels we have special rates to make you feel at home here and make you decide to take a getaway.

Today we suggest 5 winter plans in Barcelona to do with family, friends or alone:

1- Theatre or cinema night. It’s a classic at this time of year, but going to the cinema or theatre is especially appealing when it’s cold. What’s more, the programme is much more varied than in warmer weather.

Barcelona has numerous cinemas where you can see everything from the most independent films in their original version to the latest Hollywood releases.

There is also plenty of theatre to enjoy with the youngest members of the family or for an evening out with friends. Recently, the latest show of Pop the Magician has opened at the Victoria Theatre or musicals such as West Side Story at the Tivoli. Here you can find all the latest news, prices and timetables: https://es.teatrebarcelona.com/

2- Take advantage of the sales: if you are in Barcelona in January and February, stroll along Passeig de Gràcia, Portal de l’Àngel or Gràcia and take advantage of the special discounts offered by small shops and big luxury brands.

3- Visit an exhibition. Back to cultural plans. Barcelona has an impressive artistic legacy, as well as hosting the best exhibitions and temporary works because it is an important European city. Here is a list of the best museums, galleries and cultural centres for visiting an exhibition of the discipline you fancy most. Are you more into photography, sculpture or art?  A tip: on the first Sunday of every month, some of the city’s museums (MNAC, CCCB, Castell de Montjuïc, Botanical Garden, Fundació Miró, among others) are free. More details here.

4- Take a trip to the snow. It is very unusual to see snow in Barcelona, but you can experience a real hibernation day near the city. If you like the mountains, we recommend a visit to the Vall de Núria. You can get there by train from Barcelona and go up to the sanctuary on the famous ‘rack railway’, without having to hike, and enjoy a beautiful visit. If you like skiing, there are also ski slopes available such as La Molina, Vall de Núria, Masella, etc. More information here.

5- Hot chocolate in a traditional café: winter is much more pleasant if you sweeten it with a chocolate and cream and a croissant. The options are endless, but we have a few favourites such as the classic Granja Viader in the Raval neighbourhood, La Nena in the Gràcia neighbourhood or the famous Carrer Petritxol in the Gothic Quarter, where you’ll find the largest number of chocolate shops in the city such as Dulcinea, la Pallaresa or Xocoa.
