5 perfect plans for a winter visit to Barcelona

Thinking about a visit to Barcelona during the winter months? Coming to Barcelona during the colder months, and that is if we can actually call it cold, allows you to discover and enjoy it in a different way. On top of that, at Premium Suite Hotels we have very special rates, that will make your stay all the more comfortable. You have run out of excuses: it is time for a city break in Barcelona!

Today, we suggest 5 winter plans for your stay in Barcelona, be it with your family, your friends or by yourself:

1- Night out, theatre or cinema.Going to the cinema or the theatre is almost a ritual during this time of the year, and all the more so during the odd cold snap. What’s more, contrary to the more idle summer months, you will be spoilt for choice.

Barcelona has many cinemas, be it the ones offering Hollywood blockbusters, or others showcasing more independent films and documentaries.

As far as theatre goes, you have plenty of choices. Fun for the kids, with your friends, or an intimate title to enjoy on your own. The Mago Pop at the Teatre Victoria, or West Side Story at the Tivoli are the most recent additions. You can find everything theatre, prices and timetables at https://www.teatrebarcelona.com/

2- Take advantage of sales. If you happen to be in Barcelona in January or February, go for a walk along Passeig de Gràcia, Portal de l’Àngel or the Gràcia quarter, and benefit from the many discounts that both small retailers and high-end brands offer during this period.

3- Visit an exhibition. Back to more cultual plans. Barcelona has an impressive artistic heritage. Moreover, as a first-class European city, it is the chosen venue for exhibits, both permanent and temporary. Here a list with the best museums, art galleries and cultural centres. Just choose the one that best suits your taste: photography, sculpture, painting,… Pro tip: the first Sunday of every month, some museums in the city (MNAC, CCCB, Castell de Montjuïc, Botanical Garden, Fundació Miró, among others) are free to visit.

4- A snow trip.Only once a year (twice at best) is it possible to see snowflakes falling in Barcelona, but white landscapes are not that far if you feel like mixing the Mediterranean and a bit of the North during your stay. If you love mountains, we suggest that you visit Vall de Núria by train and rack railway, from Barcelona to the Sanctuary in the valley, 2000 metres up. The views from up there are simply beautiful. If you feel like skiing, you will be spoilt for choice: La Molina, Masella, Vall de Núria, among others.

5- Hot chocolate in a time-tested cafe.Leave the bitterness of winter behind with a cup of chocolate with sweet cream and a croissant. The options are endless, as far as the right place is concerned, but we definitely have some favourites, like Granja Viader in the Raval, La Nena in Gràcia, and the famous carrer de Petritxol, in the Gothic quarter, where you can find most “chocolatey” places, such as Dulcinea, la Pallaresa or Xocoa.
