Are you planning a visit to Barcelona? Are you unsure about which method of transport is the most convenient? What type of accommodation is the most suitable? Here are 10 practical tips for your visit to Barcelona. Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, both for living and for sightseeing. Why? Because it has it all: a wide range of cultural offerings, delicious cuisine, a climate that makes it attractive all year round and unique architecture.

Here are our tips to make your visit easier and more unique:

1. Airport

If you arrive by plane, you have 4 options, you can take a taxi, airbus, train or metro. The cost ranges from 35 euros to 4,60 euros, depending on the means of transport you choose. More information here.

2. Mobility within the city

Again, there are many options, depending on the type of trip you are planning. You can walk, rent a bicycle or you can take the bus or metro. In this case, we recommend you buy a T10 card, which allows you to make 10 trips on the metro or bus for a cost of €10.20. Download the TMB APP to see the timetables and public transport stops in real time. Another option, depending on how many journeys you want to make, is to buy the ‘Hola BCN!’ card for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days, which gives you unlimited use of public transport for the days you choose.

3. Visit the Sagrada Familia early in the morning

If you want to avoid crowds of organised groups and long queues, go to the basilica early in the morning. You must buy your ticket online in advance (https://sagradafamilia.org/es/ticket). This suggestion can be extended to other tourist attractions.

4. Enjoy the aerial views of Barcelona

If you are one of those people who love to see cities from above, climb Montjuïc Castle, Tibidabo or the Bunkers del Carmel. More information here.

5. Local gastronomy

Barcelona has a rich and varied gastronomy, suitable for all kinds of palates. If you’re not sure what the typical dishes are and you don’t want to miss out, here are more details.

6. Unknown architectural gems

Barcelona is a city with an undoubted architectural heritage. The Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, the Palau de la Música and Casa Batlló are some of the buildings most visited by tourists, but the city hides true wonders, full of history, that often go unnoticed or are overshadowed by their more famous neighbours. If you want to go off the beaten track, here is a suggestion.

7. Free tours

Like all cities in the world, Barcelona has a wide range of free tours, divided into different themes and areas. If you like to have the history and curiosities of the places you visit explained to you, this is a good option.

8. Time to visit Barcelona

If you have any doubts about the best time to visit the city, we must admit that it is beautiful and welcoming all year round. In winter it is not too cold, in summer it is not as scorching hot as in other Spanish cities, and in summer or autumn the weather is more stable, with some occasional rain.

9. Accommodation

If you come to Barcelona between spring and autumn, we recommend you to choose a hotel with a swimming pool so you can relax and enjoy yourself after visiting the city. At Premium Suite Hotels we have two hotels in the city centre with swimming pool, Ako Suite and Acacia Suite are a good option, flats with kitchen, solarium and swimming pool for guests in the central Eixample district.

In summer, Barcelona’s beaches become the absolute stars of the city’s party scene, attracting residents and tourists alike. But these seaside leisure areas are not just sand and water; each one has its own history, its own personality and its own public. Here we tell you all about it.
