The Sagrada Familia is out of the ordinary. It is more than just a temple, not just because of its origins and foundation, but also regarding its purpose. It is the quintessence of Antoni Gaudí’s take on Modernism, as well as a project by and for the people. Five generations already have seen the building of this masterpiece. As of today, it has been 135 years since the first stone was placed, and its construction is expected to finish in 2026.
Gaudí was only 31 when he took on the Project, and during his last twelve years, he lived devoted to his calling: serving God through architecture.
On 7th November 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the temple as a minor basílica.
