With its alleyways, its squares and the many legends it conceals, the Gothic Quarter is the place to find the essence of the oldest Barcelona.
\nLocated in the district of Ciutat Vella, in the heart of the city, the Gothic Quarter is the oldest nucleus and one of the most beautiful areas of Barcelona. This picturesque neighbourhood is bounded by Las Ramblas, Via Laietana, Passeig de Colom and Pla\u00e7a de Catalunya.

Born on the remains of Roman Barcino, the coming of the Middle Ages led to the construction of churches and gothic palaces that caused the disappearance of most of the Roman remains. The labyrinthine alleyways and medieval details make the ideal setting to enjoy the city centre at leisure, delighting in the remains of the city’s distant past.

Parts of the first wall are still preserved in the Pla\u00e7a de la Seu, opposite Barcelona Cathedral.
