With a height of 173m and in front of the sea, Montjuïc Mountain is one of the most beautiful places in Barcelona. The majority of tourists find themselves attracted to the great variety of museums, gardens, lookouts, sports arenas and tourist attractions in it although it wasn’t always that way. For many decades, the city and its population turned its back on it and the reason for this anonymity goes back to the time when the city of Barcelona was bombarded from Castle Montjuïc.
Due to the Exposición Internacional of 1929, the situation of the mountain underwent a radical change, with the majority of the urban and landscape development that you now enjoy being realized then, thus giving birth to what is now known was Parque de Montjuïc.
Years later, because of the Olympic Games of 1992, the infrastructure and gardens that were becoming worse for wear were renovated which breathed new life to this mountain which remains to this day.
We would recommend, if time permits, to dedicate an entire day to the Parque de Montjuïc. Depending on personal preferences, one could dedicate more time to the more cultural aspects of the mountain or focus on enjoying the lookout or quiet walks through its numerous gardens, something we highly recommend, particularly during the months of spring and summer.
