27 Nov THE FOODIE EXPERIENCE IN BARCELONA’S L’EIXAMPLE DISTRICT
It is often said that modern Barcelona was born at the same time as L’Eixample, a district that stretches from the Besòs river in the east to Plaça Espanya in the west, connecting the old city with the other towns that shared the Pla (plain) de Barcelona, like Gràcia, Sants, Sant Andreu, etc., and that would become historical quarters of the city as it is today.
L’Eixample is the product of one of the most splendorous moments of the city. One can just go for a walk in the area and notice the architectural legacy of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Today, it includes the most central quarters of the city, bringing together locals as well as visitors, who want to have a first-hand experience the history, culture and gastronomy of the city. As it happens, two Premium Suite Hotels properties are strategically located here: Ako Suite and Acacia Suite.
Walking along the streets of L’Eixample and taking the architectural art in is only half the visit. Make it whole by having lunch or dinner at one (or all) of these restaurants that we recommend. Quality, service, atmosphere and local-international fusion.
Racó d’en Cesc: After 30 years, it would be hard for you to find a better place for pairings, when it comes to choosing the right combination of local and seasonal produce with the perfect wine or beer. More than 350 references available and their own craft beer on top of that. Location: Diputació 201.
Mont Bar: It is well known for its great variety of tapas and small dishes of modern-yet-traditional cuisine. Seasonal, fresh products, often from its own farms. And let’s not forget its cellar, with more than 250 wines. Location: Diputació 220.
La Flauta: Its name is a good indicator of its pièce de résistance, the flautes. These sandwiches consist of a long, rather thin loaf of bread, and many delicious ingredient combinations, ideal for informal dinners. And if that were not enough, it also boasts a wide variety of Catalan dishes prepared with fresh market products. Location: Aribau 23.
L’Oliva: Delicious, good-quality, reasonably-priced Mediterranean cuisine. Location: Diputació 205.
Boa Bao: An Asian restaurant offering an ample array of authentic Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and Indian dishes. Want more? How about topping it all with a cocktail? Location: Plaça del Dr. Letamendi 1.
Beam: An excellent place to savour Mexican, Brazilian and Italian dishes. A multicultural fusion, created to enjoy the best of each country. Live music and art for purchase from Belgian painter Philippe Boonen in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Location: Diputació 200.
Bloom: Bistro cafe offering Mediterranean cuisine with a creative hint. Many organic products and vegetarian and vegan options. The kitchen is open all day. Location: Aribau 31.
Where do we start? We recommend them all! We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
