    November 27th – December 23rd, 2015

The Fira de Santa Llúcia is a street market that has been held in the Avinguda de la Catedral, right in front of Barcelona’s Cathedral in the Gothic Quarter for 229 years, or so the oldest documents say. Like in many countries of Catholic tradition, the characters said to be present in the birth of Jesus Christ are often depicted in Nativity scenes, be it on public places or private homes. Classic figurines and statuettes of Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus, the Three Magi and many more are often sold with other rather unfortunate characters. All these, as well as all sorts of decorative items, Christmas trees and lighting, make it difficult to believe that it all began as a fairly inconspicuous fair for shepherds and livestock. One way or another, there is no real start to the Christmas season in Barcelona without paying a visit to the Fira de Santa Llúcia.
